Welcome to Party of One, a series where I outline themes to consider for your next dinner party.
The idea came for this series came when I was procrasti-making a mood board for a Sober October happy hour I’m hosting next week. (The theme is Highlander meets Horse Girl in case you were curious.)
Dinner Party Theme #1: Dinner with the Beckhams
Bring out your sambas and bedazzled tanks for a 90s themed meal to hash out the Beckham documentary and show off your knowledge of sports.
Background: Before there was Taylor and Travis, there was Posh and Becks. I know this because I just watched the Beckham documentary and also have a vague recollection of the LA Galaxy era.
Menu: For aesthetic and taste reasons, you could honor Real Madrid and serve up tapas. OR you could go for a traditional Sunday British roast menu with roasted meat, potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding. I think you could also be clever and do orange slices to honor childhood soccer league days when you got those at half-time.
Outfits: You can either go Sporty Cool Girl (which is apparently called Blokecore?) a la Bella Hadid with a jersey and sambas (brownie points if it’s a jersey for a team that Beckham played for).
Otherwise, Posh Spice-inspired outfits, busting out great sunglasses, black dresses, and cropped tanks. Or committing to a purple suit will help you win the entire evening. No notes.
