Hello to so many new friends and faces! Welcome to the 600+ new subscribers (!!!) who have found their way here over the past month.
In case you’re new here, I’m Sarah Wood González, a freelance style and culture writer, living in Scotland. This is a twice-weekly newsletter with a weekly essay about something I’m thinking about and a weekly gratitude of 10 things worth celebrating. I also write “Help a Friend Out” which collates interesting writing, press, and job opportunities. You can subscribe to that here!
10 Things I’m Celebrating This Week:
I’m so surprised and moved by the response to the essay I wrote about long distance friendship—those magical friends who you can not see for months and then pick up like no time has passed.
The week prior to last I wrote about finding myself on the wrong side of the Internet when I wrote about my wedding for Vogue… and how that made me rethink how I engage online.
Hugo Macdonald, global design director at Wallpaper and co-founder of Bard put together his Edinburgh recs here.
I cannot stop thinking about this essay about phone usage.
As a By Chloe loyalist from 2012, I’m so happy to see she has her name back and has a new restaurant!!! I loved this profile in Elle.
Wanted to take a moment to plug my amazing executive coaches Eric Friedman and Regina Gerbeaux (started working with Regina last month for a values alignment exercise) and I can say that I finally feel like I have my mojo back!!!
I put together my Fringe recommendations if you happen to be in town for the festival! I saw Cat Cohen with G on Friday and was in tears laughing.
G and I went to a lovely hotel in Greece and rested for four days and it reinvigorated my soul. Among the many perks, they had hyme honey-on-the-honeycomb at the breakfast buffet which is now my new obsession (thank you
for the honeycomb introduction, you have created a monster)BACK TO READING! While in Greece I read Intimacies by Katie Kitamura and Just for the Summer by Abby Jiminez. I also just picked up More, Please! By Emma Specter. I am always looking for book recs! I am sending out the Wives Like Us bookclub email this week I PROMISE!!!
My win of the year is that we finally replaced the tablecloth stuck in the window that we’ve been using as blinds since we moved in, with a proper curtain rail. I hit a renovating wall and so many things still need to be done that I’m slowly getting the energy back to do. Hopefully next week we will install light fixtures and get rid of the wires sticking out of the walls…
With love,
Sarah
Not a celebration, but I wanted to use this platform to draw your attention to what’s happening in Venezuela — election fraud, extreme violence, and suppression as the 25 year-long dictatorship refuses to hand over power peacefully to the candidate who rightfully won the elections. Please share the news and follow María Corina Machado for updates. Pray for Venezuela.
Thanks for the mention Sarah! 🫶🏻
The phone article was interesting. I was at the dentist the other day and had to point out to everyone that there were four of us in the waiting room and NONE of us were on phones. Started a terrific conversation. What a delight. Enjoy your day / night / week. Hugs. 🤗🤗
