Hello, happy Monday! I am deep in gratitude today.
I’m celebrating all the wins below as well as a family member’s surgery gone especially well, the generosity and patience of G, and then secondly from that, the miracle of finding a life partner in this big, vast world (!!), the excitement of seeing my friends and family soon in NYC, the delight of going out on my own and being met with so much trust and support to have this much client work, and so many more things than I can list.
And to each of you! Thank you for your patience. I have many long-form essays in me and once I can pick my head up from getting renovations and About Town going, I cannot wait to write them!!
10 Things I’m Celebrating This Week:
Edinburgh IRL book club for Wives Like Us by Plum Sykes is THIS Wednesday!!! And Plum has confirmed she will be Zooming in!!! Reply to this email if you want to come!! It’s from 6-8pm UK time and I won’t judge you if you haven’t fully finished the book because life happens.
Finally finished putting up box moulding on the walls in our living room. G told me it was probably not a good idea to take on an intense home project in the first week of starting a business, but guess what, I didn’t listen! And he was right. I got halfway through it and then it sat untouched for two weeks. He took pity on me and put the hours in with me this weekend to finish the project. And I love them!!!
In other apartment news, our renovation begins on Nov 25 and I could not be more excited. We have essentially been living in a job site these past months (so much that I nearly strictly shower at the gym) and I cannot wait to live more comfortably.
My dear friend Ailsa Macconnell, who is a supremely talented interior designer, came over and helped me finalize all the details. She also brought chocolate-covered pretzels, which is extremely important to note. She is a true miracle worker. While she’s UK-based, she can do consultations remotely as well! I couldn’t recommend her more.
I’m heading back to the Scottish Highlands tomorrow to assist on a photo shoot which is such a surreal pinch me moment.
Accompanied G on his 32 km run for marathon training. To be clear, I was on a bike. I’m so excited to cheer him on at the NYC marathon in two weeks!!!
The joy of asking for help. These past weeks have been absolutely mad and a lot of things have fallen off, namely nutrition and sleep. I’m super excited in November to work with a personal chef (!!!!) who is going to stock our flat with meals. I’ve also found an amazing person to sell clothes on Vinted for me.
I am in a pre-winter spring cleaning feeling. I’ve long believed that things have feelings and the more I lighten up my clothes and objects, the better I feel. Anyone following along with my failed attempts to sell furniture on Instagram will see that we FINALLY sold our sofa which is a victory in itself.
I think it’s important to share that if you size up in corduroy trousers, they feel like sweat pants.
My friend
launched her newsletter, Linkage. She is such a brilliant writer. In her words:Most of all, I wanted to create a community of fellow travelers who are in search of “the ancient paths.” Here is a gathering place for like-minded souls on a quest to find the light in the shadow, the tenderness in the quiet, and the magic in the mundane. Here is a home for kindred spirits who believe that angels are not as far away as we might think.
With gratitude,
Sarah
I love the pre-winter spring cleaning! I do that with my closet every season. I do a seasonal switchover from spring/summer to fall/winter and when I do that, I look at all the stuff I have for the upcoming season and see what I want to sell or donate. Such a great feeling. And: if you're in need of a new item, it also gives you a little extra budget to work with.
Classy looking apartment!! You’ve both done a wonderful job of it. Congratulations. 🤗🤗
