This piece is beautiful. I have always believed that loving anyone, especially a romantic partner, is an active choice you need to make every day. You need to wake up and decide to show up as a partner. It’s not always easy but the deep connection you build is really magical. I loved the line: “Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it.” 🥹

‘What counted was not so much the impression one made in public as how one behaved in private.’

Thank you so much for your beautiful words that really resonated with me.

I lost my wonderful husband of 36 years last year and it certainly takes faith and devotion to get through the ups and downs of marriage life. It's the small everyday private kindnesses that whisper love, not the big showy gestures, that matter.

My husband's devotion to his family means that his life certainly didn't go unnoticed.

What beautiful words, Elizabeth. "Private kindess" -- I love that wording. My heart is with you for the loss of your husband. I am touched to hear this essay resonated with you--especially as I only have 5 months of marriage and you have the incredible 36 years. Sending hugs.

This was so refreshing and beautiful to read. “When you live in alignment with your values, that’s when the miracles happen.” 🎯 I’ve experienced the same, and it is glorious. Devotion is indeed a choice, and my favorite to choose when it comes to loving.

I moved to Napoli for my husband’s job. I felt the same as you - I knew we would go and I never questioned it. Even though I don’t feel totally in “alignment” I am hoping doors will open for me the more I keep putting myself out there and living with devotion ❤️
